The set-up is the most important facet of an instrument. How these steps are performed determine how well an instrument will play and sound. Instruments from Bravo Music Company are unique because they are musician shop-adjusted and test-played by our highly trained staff of musicians. This ensures that our customers receive the highest quality and best value instrument attainable form any source.
The term "set-up" is used to describe the final steps involved in making an instrument. Playing on an instrument that has had proper set-up is critical to the success of the student. Pegs should turn smoothly and shouldn't be run in the way. The soundpost requires very careful fitting between the front and back of the instrument. The soundpost is sometimes called the "soul" of the violin. We play the violin, adjust the post, play some more and continue to do this as we work on the bridge. The bridge has the most complex job in the entire violin. It holds the strings at the right height, matches the power of the strings to the specific violin, filters annoying hiss and noise, and determines the frequencies most emphasized. Final setup As the violin starts to break in, we check and adjust the soundpost, the afterlength of the strings ( the distance between the tailpiece and the bridge) and a variety of other aspects of the violin. We aim for clear and focused tone, balanced sound, ease of playing, easy string crossings, and even response.
