France Antique Violin Charles Resuche, Eleve de Gand et Bernadel Lyon 1897
Born at Mirecourt in 1858. Pupil of Gand and Bernardel. Was at first established at Lyons, then attached to the Maison Meynieu at Bordeaux from 1899 to 1913, in which year he retired. Has signed a number of instruments. Red varnish. Well made Stradivarius and Guarnerius models.
Biography
Son of a cooper, Charles, Jean-Baptiste R?SUCHE was born on December 11, 1858. (1)
A student of Gabriel DIDION in MIRECOURT, he joined the GAND & BERNARDEL company in Paris after completing his training.
In 1896, he founded a workshop, Passage de l'Arque in Lyon, with his colleague Justin, Victor DITER. They only stayed at this address for a short time and moved to 69 rue de l'Hotel de Ville the same year.
J. DITER took over the workshop of A.M.
RICHELME in Marseille in January 1897, and the two partners separated. Charles R?SUCHE then left for Bordeaux, where he took over the F./ MEYNIEU company in 1899. (2)
Charles R?SUCHE retired from business in 1913.
Works
Mainly composed of violins, the production of Ch.
R?SUCHE, although marked by his time at GAND & BERNARDEL, is distinguished by a strong personal style, in which we find the influence of his association with J. DITER.
While the majority of his production, dressed in a full varnish and inspired mainly by Stradivari and Guarneri, is made after his own model, there are a few rare violins of a different make, made with a copy in mind.
