Commissioned in the 1920s, the original Prince William was to be a one-of-a-kind instrument that was left unfinished due to Depression-era woes. In the 1950s an employee of Lyon & Healy personally financed its completion and named the instrument for his highly regarded harp division manager, William J. Parks. The Prince William’s sound is true Lyon & Healy: clear and resonant with carrying ability. With a mahogany finish, bunches of 23+ karat gilded roses drape from the top of the crown and swirl the base, enhancing its regal appearance. A double Rosewood inlay complements the solid Sitka Spruce soundboard. The hand-painted soundboard decoration using 23+ karat gold leaf features a bouquet of flowers set in an elaborate vase surrounded by trellised vines and ribbon. As a Lyon & Healy Special Instrument, the Prince William comes with a unique miniature etching of a Lyon & Healy concert grand action plate design on the inside of the soundboard, a richly engraved, previously retired front action plate as well as an engraved back plate, a transport cover set and an extended 10-year limited warranty.
