ÊÒ´ѺàºÔÅàºÊ Thomastik Belcanto medium long E string (for C extensions)
Thomastik Belcanto
Thomastik has been making these "rope core" (a style of winding, not what they're made of!) strings for a couple of years, and I must say that we're pretty high on them right now - they’re on Bob's Kay, and he's really loving them for both pizz and arco. They’ve been designed for bowed work, but they have a very musical, warm pizz sound with a very sweet sustain. Their bowed feel and quick response is wonderful. Now they're available in a new (Sept '09) Solo Gauge!
String details from the manufacturer, Thomastik Infeld:
Core: specially twisted steel rope core; settles in quickly, intonates extremely well; exceptional tuning stability
Tone: dark and warm with excellent resonance; wide range of tone colors; easy to blend; pizzicato is open and free
Sound: outstanding projection with moderate effort; sustains better than most other arco (bowing) string brands
Playbility: quick response to the bow; soft under your fingers; fantanstic hybrid capability
Belcantos are for 3/4 size (and possibly some 7/8 or 4/4 depending on scale length) basses, with a scale length up to 110cm (43.3 inches). They have a steel rope core and are chromium wound.
Tension: G=28.25kg/62.2 lbs; D=27.75kg/63.3 lbs; A=29.25kg/64.4 lbs; E=28.75kg/63.3 lbs; Set=115kg/253.20 lbs. |

Tension 25 Kg. per string
The first synthetic core string from Velvet, which took 2 years to develop. Intended to be a more affordable string that still sounds like a velvet product, featuring great articulation, big volume, great sustain and equal tension on all 4 strings. The Blue set has it all - a bit brighter than the silk core sets, offering fast response and good volume - a string with a student price but professional sound --- tension per string 25kg (55 lbs) |

ÊÒ´ѺàºÔÅàºÊ Velvet ÃØè¹ Garbo for Jazz Bass Player Light (ªØ´)
Tension 23 Kg. per string
The Garbo gut string sound is unbeatable in volume and penetration. Garbo is the choice for the jazz bass players.
All Velvet silk, gut, or synthetic core strings are wound to minimize the irritating effects of hand perspiration on the core. The winding also provides tone and pitch stability, so it's possible to produce a balanced, solid sound with a clearly audible attack.
Velvet Garbo G string is wound with the finest polyamide, but can be played like an unwound gut string.
Velvet Garbo D string is spun with a polyamide/copper composite, solving the known problem of a slack and soft D gut string without sustain.
Velvet Garbo A & E strings are wound with copper, but with a higher proportion of gut than Anima. Extra gut material combined with the copper winding provides an especially distinctive low fundamental. You get more percussive "punch" from the bottom two strings.

ÊÒ´ѺàºÔÅàºÊ Velvet ÃØè¹ Compas 180 Solo Tuning (ªØ´)
Tension 26 Kg. per string.
Velvet Compas 180 Solo Tuning upright bass strings have been reformulated to a medium tension. Compas 180 Suit has been discontinued. Compas 180 Solo tuning replaces Compas 180 Suit.
All four strings are round metal wound over a natural fiber core. Comps is built around a core using natural fibres, and is distinctive in its extremely rapid response and perfect balance, in both pizzicato and bowing. It has depth, and thanks to the round string winding, offers an open harmonic range. |
